Last year, Baltimore closed the book on the latest chapter of Broadway Market’s 234-year history.
Both of the Fells Point landmark’s buildings opened anew after full renovations that took years of planning, dedication and millions of dollars to complete.
The north shed was brought back to life after sitting vacant and shuttered for nearly a decade. It reopened with 10 vendors, some new and others returning, after a $3.2 million overhaul funded by the city. The south shed got a $4 million makeover from its former life as a marketplace with multiple tenants and reopened as The Choptank, an upscale seafood house from Baltimore’s Atlas Restaurant Group.
The updates eliminated blight and brought new energy to the heart of Fells Point, and are helping to spur other new redevelopment in the waterfront neighborhood and surrounding areas.
